Cattle Breeding Farm (ILFC)

HISTORY

Late Shri Munshi Abdul Rehman established Deoni Cattle Breeding Farm, Udgir in the year 1952 at the regime of State Government, Hyderabad. After that this farm was in the control of Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Maharashtra. From 1987 this Farm transferred to COVAS, Udgir under Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani. Now it has been transferred in the control of COVAS, Udgir under Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur.

The Sunegaon (8 Kms. away from Ahmedpur Taluka place) Dist.Latur is a separate farm known as “Sunegaon Farm.”
Having 93 hectors of non-irrigated and hilly land.

RESEARCH
Various research projects are being conducted in collaboration with various departments of COVAS, Udgir In addition some of the farm oriented projects are being conducted as follows.
1)Effect of Azolla feeding on growth of Deoni calves
2)Effect of Azolla feeding on milk production by replacement of cotton seed cake in Deoni cows.
3)Hypophosphatemia in Deoni animals
4)Studies of different composite silages

ROUTINE ACTIVITIES OF CBF
I.Deoni Cattle:
A)Under the Cattle Breeding Farm pure breed Deoni animal are being maintained
B)The Farm animals are being used for conducting the UG and PG practical demonstrations as well as the research activities of various disciplines.

II.Murrha Buffalo
A)Under the buffalo Breeding Farm Murrah buffloes are being maintained
for conducting of UG/PG practical demonstrations as well as research activities of various disciplines.

III.Deccani Sheep Breeding Farm
Deccani Sheeps are being maintained for conducting UG/PG practical demonstrations and for research activities.

IV.Osmanabadi Goat Breeding Farm
Osmanabadi Goats are being maintained for conducting of UG/PG practical demonstrations and for research activities.
Fodder development of programme

A)About Twenty Ha. of irrigated land is being utilized for green fodder production. The annual production of green fodder is near about 800 T.
B)For green fodder production plots of maize African tall, 898 fodder purpose jowar and Yeshwant, Jaywant and Dharwad napier are being maintained.
C)About 120-140 T of dry grass is being produced annually. Varieties of natural grasses are found such as Pawna, Shada, Marvel and Gondvel are naturally grown.
